After 30 years, the critically endangered Red-Crowned Roofed Turtles have returned to the Ganga River. Once believed extinct, 20 of these rare turtles were reintroduced into the Haiderpur Wetland on April 26, 2025. Each turtle has been tagged for tracking, allowing conservationists to monitor their movements and survival. This release is a crucial milestone in reviving the river’s biodiversity and restoring the ecological balance of the Ganga. The reintroduction not only breathes new life into a nearly lost species but also signals hope for the health of an entire river system long threatened by pollution and habitat loss.
